Software Technology department of AIMIT St Aloysius College (Deemed to be University) held a one-day workshop on advanced computing for the final year students of BCA and BSc Computer Science students of Govt First Grage College, Carstreet, Mangalore on June 1. Ninety students attended this workshop.

Dr (Fr) Melwyn Pinto SJ, Director of AIMIT, in his introductory remarks spoke about the need to interact and collaborate among students of various Institutions which would help to overcome the way society is getting divided. He also expressed his satisfaction that Carstreet College has been sending students every year for such workshops.

The First technical session was handled by DrSRuban, HOD of Software Technology on the topic ‘Artificial Intelligence and its role in healthcare’. He spoke on real time examples and discussed a few case studies that were done by AIMIT students in collaboration with Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore.

The second technical session was by DrRakesh Kumar, HOD of Big Data Analytics on the topic ‘Big Data Analytics and its applications’. He spoke about the current trends in the job market available for students who complete their course on Big Data.

The third technical session was handled by DrSanthosh B, HOD of Computer Applications. He spoke on information security and also did a live demo using Google App Engine.

The final forenoon session was about career guidance. DrRuban spoke about options before undergraduate computer science students and elaborated the advantages and limitations of each option.

The afternoon session was a hands on session where students of I year Software Technology programme were the resource persons. Bharath and Shraddha gave a demo on creating static website. They made the students develop a website on their own.

Another parallel session was conducted byVijeth and Vidhya who did a hands-on session on Wordpress.

The workshop was coordinated by Mrs Nausheeda B.S. and MrAravinda Prabhu from IT department.
