AIMIT hosted a session on POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) and the pros and cons of new criminal laws on September 6. Mr K. Nikesh Shetty, advocate and legal consultant addressed our first-year IT and Management students. Mr Shetty emphasized on how the legal system around sexual harassment has evolved and the challenges it faces today and stressed the importance of a safe workplace.
Mr Nikesh Shetty spoke about recent legal changes aimed at better supporting victims. Also noted that some accused still manage to escape punishment. He also highlighted governments efforts to replace colonial-era laws, mentioning the shift from the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as an important step toward modernizing the legal system to better reflect Indian values and needs.
The session concluded with questions and answers. Students actively participated, asking about court processes and legal issues. The talk was informative and interactive, leaving students with a better understanding of POSH and legal reforms.
