Unfurling the national flag, Sr Trecilla called upon students and others to remember the sacrifice freedom fighters made to secure freedom for India. She highlighted the theme of this year’s Independence Day, ‘Nation first, always first’. “When we see the Indian flag, we remember the sacrifice of these martyrs for the country. They have secured a free life for us,” she said.
She further added that one must not forget the people of Manipur where there is non-stop violence. “When we celebrate India’s Independence, let us remember the people of Manipur. We must reflect and see if the people of Manipur are experiencing a semblance of freedom on this day. Let us resolve ourselves to do something for them,” she said. She further said that there is a need of unifying everyone, praying and seeing to that voices of everyone is heard which is the essence of independent India.
Poovama and team were the commanding officer in charge of flag hoisting. Patriotic song was sung by Dia and team. Arogya Preetham welcomed the gathering. Director Dr (Fr) Melwyn Pinto, deans, staff and students were present for the ceremony.
