The Department of Bioinformatics, St Aloysius (Deemed to Be University) AIMIT hosted an insightful guest lecture by Jithin Jose Mathew on September 27. Mr Jithin is an esteemed alumni of the department and currently pursuing PhD at North Dakota University, USA. First and second year MSc Bioinformatics students together with Dean of IT and HOD of Bioinformatics participated in the event. Mr Jithin shared valuable insights on ‘Precision Farming’, an area where his research is focused. He emphasized the role of bioinformatics in advancing agricultural innovations, particularly in enhancing crop resilience, improving yields, and supporting sustainable farming practices through data-driven solutions.
Mr Jithin reflected on his academic journey from AIMIT to his current PhD program at North Dakota University. He credited a strong foundation in bioinformatics for his successful transition into the interdisciplinary field of agricultural biotechnology. His passion for integrating computational tools with biological research was evident as he discussed how these approaches help solve real-world agricultural problems.
Mr Jithin interacted with the students and appreciated their curiosity to know about his on-going research and challenges he faces. He encouraged the aspiring researchers to be persistent, develop critical problem-solving skills and seek interdisciplinary knowledge. The talk concluded with Mr Jithin offering practical advice on networking, research internships, and maintaining a passion for scientific discovery.
