The librarians of AIMIT conducted 132nd National Librarians’ Day on August 12 at the AIMIT Library to commemorate the birthday of Padmashri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan (1892-1972), who is considered the father of library science in India. He was an incredible individual and an inspirational guide to all librarians.

The programme began with invoking blessings from the Almighty, followed by the lighting of the lamp by dignitaries. Mr. Praveen Dsouza and Ms. Divya K. shed light on the exceptional life and contributions of Dr. Ranganathan, highlighting how his innovative ideas have significantly shaped the field of library science and how his legacy continues to inspire librarians across the country.

Mr. Sunil Crasta provided insights into the AIMIT Library, explaining how it is equipped with technological advancements and how it addresses ongoing challenges.

In his address, Dr. (Fr.) Kiran Cotha SJ, Director, stated that Librarians’ Day is celebrated for three significant reasons: to commemorate the legacy of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan and his commendable contribution to establishing knowledge centers in India; to express gratitude to all the librarians of the institution while drawing inspiration from Dr. Ranganathan’s dedication to making knowledge accessible to the public; and to emphasize the importance of authentic knowledge, encouraging students to focus on reading books.

Earlier, Ms. Mamatha welcomed the gathering, Ms. Veena delivered the vote of thanks, and Mr. Joy Dsouza compered the program.
