The 75th Independence Day was celebrated at AIMIT, St Aloysius College (Deemed to be University) on Monday. The chief guest for the function was Philomena D’Souza, a support staff member.
In her address, she called upon all to remember the great sacrifices that freedom fighters had made to secure independence for India. Mrs D’Souza highlighted the true meaning of Independence and exalted all those present to embrace the spirit of Independence. “The true meaning of living one’s freedom is to make sure that we do not disturb the freedom of the other,” she said.
Dr Balwinder Singh from Guru Nanak Dev Univiersity Amritsar was the guest of honour for the programme. He called upon the audience to keep alive the true spirit of Indian independence by respecting everyone devoid of caste, creed and colour.
Vanessa Gokavi and the choir team sang patriotic songs. The parade commander for the programme was Jeevith Sequeira. Sumith Joyson Noronha compered the programme. Director, Dr (Fr) Melwyn Pinto, teaching and non-teaching staff and students were present.
